Lift Truck at McCarthy Hall and Titan Shops - March 30

A lift truck will be stationed on campus Monday to allow our carpenters to replace broken windows to prevent water intrusion at McCarthy Hall and Titan Shops.

When: Monday, March 30, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: North side of McCarthy Hall, south of the quad

Southeast corner of Titan Shops

Langsdorf Hall Stairwell Painting - March 25 - April 10

By popular demand, as part of our campus-wide painting program, our crew has prioritized upgrades to all four stairwells inside Langsdorf Hall. The work will include repair of cracks and other damage, plus a fresh coat of paint for walls, railings, and entry doors and door jambs on the stairwell side.

The project has been strategically scheduled while the campus is mostly vacant.

When: Stairwells will be repaired and painted one at a time. Painting of the south stairwell is now underway Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. through approximately Friday, April 10.

Where: Langsdorf Hall south stairwell - floors 1-9

Each stairwell will be marked with signage when it is closed for painting; if you are on campus at this time, please use the elevators or other stairwells instead.

During this project, any building occupants may notice the smell of paint. We would like to reassure you that the contractor is using a safe, water-based product, and our HVAC crew will work to minimize circulation of odors.

As a precaution, the project area will be frequently checked and cleared by Environmental Health & Safety. Please talk with your supervisor about any workspace concerns if you are working on campus. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your support for this campus beautification effort.

Education Classrooms 1st Floor Abatement - March 20

The HVAC system on the 1st floor of the Education Classroom building will be shut down late Friday to allow for flooring replacement and asbestos abatement.

When: 4 p.m. Friday, March 20 through 8 p.m. Saturday, March 21

Where: The flooring project is scheduled in EC-102. The HVAC system will be shut down on the 1st floor.

Only trained personnel will be allowed near the project area; please stay clear. The HVAC system will be restored and the area will be cleared for occupancy by a third-party specialist on Saturday. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

As most of the campus transitions to virtual learning and telecommuting, we will continue to have a core team on-site to provide essential maintenance, repairs and emergency response. This includes:

A rotating team of custodians and groundskeepers

Trades supervisors and technicians to monitor systems and address maintenance needs

Environmental Health & Safety specialists

Project managers to oversee ongoing campus construction projects

Staff to process mail and packages

Staff to operate our campus central plant 24/7

Staff to field incoming service requests

Waste Management staff to manage campus disposal and recycling

Gordon Hall Power Shutdown - March 7

Power to the Gordon Hall is scheduled to be temporarily shut down after hours this Saturday, March 7.

In line with federal and state safety codes, Cal State Fullerton is required to perform annual 90-minute after-dark emergency lighting walks for each building on campus. During this time, power to the building is shut off, the emergency generator is run, and our staff inspectors walk the entire building to verify that all necessary emergency lighting is operational.

When: Saturday night, March 7, from approximately 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Where: Gordon Hall - entire building

At the end of the work day this Friday, March 6, please shut down and disconnect any computers, laptops, printers and any other sensitive electronic equipment by unplugging them from the wall outlets, if possible. Please avoid using the elevators near the time of the shutdown. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Nutwood Parking Structure Power Shutdown - March 7

Power to the Nutwood Parking Structure is scheduled to be temporarily shut down after hours this Saturday, March 7.

In line with federal and state safety codes, Cal State Fullerton is required to perform annual 90-minute after-dark emergency lighting walks for each facility on campus. During this time, power is shut off, the emergency generator is run, and our staff inspectors walk the entire structure to verify that all necessary emergency lighting is operational.

When: Saturday night, March 7, from approximately 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Where: Nutwood Parking Structure

Gordon Hall Water Shutdown - March 8

Water to Gordon Hall is scheduled to be shut down this Sunday to allow our plumbing crew to replace a defective backflow device.

When: Sunday, March 8 from approximately 4 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Where: Gordon Hall – entire building

Restrooms, drinking fountains and sinks will be affected. If you are on campus this weekend, please use facilities in other buildings.

You may notice cloudiness, bubbles or a color change once the water supply is restored; these changes are normal and will subside as water is run through the pipes. We apologize for the late notice and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Mihaylo Hall Elevator Testing - March 9-13

Mihaylo Hall elevators will be temporarily out of service in rotation next week as they undergo state-mandated five-year safety testing.

The tests will involve placing weights equal to the capacity rating inside each elevator cab, and then running the elevator and applying an emergency stop to verify proper operation.

When: Monday-Friday, March 9-13. Testing will be done on one elevator at a time in the early morning before 8 a.m. However, after each test the affected elevator may remain out of service for the day, awaiting state inspection.

Where: Mihaylo Hall – all four elevators

Please watch for signs indicating which elevator is out of service. Instead, please use the stairs or other available elevators.

If you are in the building in the early morning, please be aware that this testing will cause some noise and create a vibration throughout the building. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Gordon Hall Exterior Stairs - Feb. 28 - March 6

The exterior staircase at Gordon Hall will be closed for approximately one week starting tomorrow to allow our crew to seal the stairs. This routine maintenance project will help improve the appearance, safety and durability of the staircase.

When: Friday, Feb. 28 through Friday, March 6

Where: Gordon Hall exterior stairs on the building’s northeast side. The stairs lead from the ground floor to the second level.

Please watch for barriers and signage, and stay clear of the project area. The building’s interior stairwells and elevator remain open and available. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

CPAC Restroom Refresh - Through Mid-March

As part of our ongoing campus maintenance program, restrooms in the original Clayes Performing Arts Center building will be intermittently closed for painting. Our crews are applying a fresh coat of paint to walls, ceilings, partitions, doors, door frames and foyers, where needed.

When: Each restroom will take approximately 2-4 weeks to complete, barring unforeseen circumstances

Where: Third floor – men’s (CPAC-301) and women’s (CPAC-313) restrooms in the northeast corner of the building

Second floor – men’s (CPAC-263) restroom near the center of the building. The adjacent women’s (CPAC-262) restroom was recently completed

Scheduled next are the second floor men’s (CPAC-228) and women’s (CPAC-231) restrooms in the northeast corner of the building

Signs will be posted directing visitors to other nearby restrooms, including the first-floor restrooms along the CPAC-131 hallway in the northeast corner of the building. Please note that the men’s (CPAC-112) and women’s (CPAC-111) restrooms near the Arena Theater are also closed for a full refresh through early March. We appreciate your patience and understanding for these upgrades.

Partial Campus Scheduled Power Shutdown - Feb. 21

A partial campus power shutdown has been scheduled over the Presidents’ Day holiday to allow for upgrades to the high-voltage electrical system on the west side of the campus. Several facilities will be affected, listed below.

When: Presidents’ Day holiday, Friday, Feb. 21, from approximately 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. – see schedule below

In alphabetical order, power will be shut down to the following facilities:

Power off at 5 a.m. and restored by 7 a.m.

Campus Cell Tower – possibly affecting on-campus cell phone service

Children's Center

Clayes Performing Arts Center addition

Fullerton Arboretum

Nutwood Parking Structure

Parking & Transportation

Student Recreation Center

Titan Shops

University Police Department – to be powered by generator throughout

West Campus Drive Electrical Work - Feb. 19-20

A section of West Campus Drive west of the track will be limited to one lane next Wednesday and Thursday as part of an ongoing underground utility project to upgrade campus power capacity.

When: Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 19 and 20, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: West Campus Drive west of the track. The sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians and bicyclists.

A flagger will be in place to direct traffic. To avoid delays, please use an alternate route to avoid the area. The Associated Road entrance off Yorba Linda Boulevard can be used to reach the northwest corner of campus.

This is preparation for high-voltage work that will require a partial campus power shutdown scheduled for the Presidents’ Day holiday, Friday, Feb. 21; please watch for an email notification early next week. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.

CPAC Water Shutdown - Feb. 16

Our crew is making steady progress on the refresh of two restrooms on the first floor of Clayes Performing Arts Center. The restrooms are temporarily closed to receive fresh paint, new partitions and plumbing upgrades.

As the next step in the process, our plumbers will be shutting down the water supply to the original CPAC building to install new plumbing isolation valves.

When: Sunday, Feb. 16, from approximately 4 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Where: Clayes Performing Arts Center – original building
