In addition to the waste and recycling bins, waste material is disposed of in various ways across campus.

Recycling bins are placed throughout campus for ordinary recyclables such as bottle, cans, paper, and cardboard. Landfill

Confidential Documents

 

Confidential Documents

Confidential documents should be placed in the appropriate bins. Material in these bins is sent to a secure destruction facility for shredding and recycling. Please do not use these bins for non-confidential paper.

Cardboard

 

Cardboard

Cardboard should be placed in the co-mingled recycling bins or dumpsters on campus, with the exception of the Bookstore, Gastronome, and TSU. These locations have dedicated dumpsters or compactors for clean, dry cardboard.

Landscape Debris

 

Landscape Debris

Landscape debris can be placed in dedicated Green Waste dumpsters located east of the Sports Complex or north of Visual Arts nearest State College Blvd. All landscape debris can be placed in the brown Yard Waste only dumpsters.

Hazardous Waste and Universal Waste

 

Hazardous Material and Universal Waste

Hazardous Materials and Universal Waste are items that are wholly are partially regulated and may not be disposed of in standard recycling or landfill bins. No hazardous waste brought from home will be accepted. For household hazardous waste, please see this OC Guide.PDF File They include:

  • Paint, paint thinners, spray cans
  • Chemical
  • Solvents (gas, antifreeze)
  • Florescent light tubes and bulbs
  • Lubricants, motor oil, oil contaminated material
  • Biomedical, biohazardous, sharps and laboratory waste
  • Medicines and Controlled Substances
  • Pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides
  • Asbestos
  • Radioactive material
  • Used respirator cartridges
  • Contaminated soil
  • Any product labeled toxic, poison, corrosive, reactive or flammable

Printer and Copier Cartridges

Requires special handling and should not be placed in landfill or recycling bins or dumpsters. 

Place in original package and send via Inter-Campus mail to Shipping & Receiving, T-1100. Call Shipping & Receiving for pick up of large cartridges, ext. 2531.

Batteries

Requires special handling and should not be placed in landfill or recycling bins or dumpsters. 

For a small amount of batteries (<20 small batteries), please send to EH&S, T-1450, through inter campus mail. For a large amount, please submit a Hazardous Waste Pickup form.

Furniture, Appliances, Scrap Metal, Surplus, or Bulky Items

 

Furniture, Appliance, Scrap Metal, Surplus, or Bulky Items

Should not be placed in dumpster or dumpster areas. Please call for special handling. Provide a list of items to be picked up and location where items will be stored. For Fire Safety compliance, do not store items in hallways. Moving and storage cleanout services also available.

Electronic Waste

 

Electronic Waste

E-waste requires special handling and should not be placed in landfill or recycling bins or dumpsters. This includes all electronic items such as:

  • Computers, laptops, servers, and tablets
  • Computer accessories like keyboards, mice, printers, scanners
  • Monitors and televisions
  • Small electronic devices like calculators or digital equipment
  • Phones
  • Audio-Visual equipment
  • Digital and video cameras

Construction & Demolition (C&D) Debris

 

C&D Debris

 

C&D should not be placed in dumpsters or dumpster areas for disposal. Please plan accordingly with the Service Center to ensure C&D can be properly handled and disposed. Contractors at CSUF are required to recycle C&D debris as part of their scope of work. Please see Solid Waste Logistical Services for contractor requirements.

Pallets

Should not be placed in dumpsters or dumpster areas. Pallets should be picked up and returned to vendor. Please call for special handling.
